NANA SAWADA
Nana Sawada is a Japanese choreographer and movement artist currently based in Berlin. Her work investigates the intimate connections between the body and the human questions that emerge through lived experience. Drawing from her training in Contemporary dance under Tomoko Sato and her background in theatrical arts, Nana’s choreographic language weaves together somatic research, improvisation, and visual storytelling.
After graduating from Osaka University of Arts, Nana worked extensively in Japan as a dance instructor and choreographer, mentoring young dancers. She later joined the performance direction team of a Korean entertainment company, where she expanded both her choreographic scope and project management experience.
In 2021, Nana founded ATROA, a project-based performance collective that explores themes of human connection, societal structures, and the interplay between personal and collective identity. Her recent works with ATROA include Time Theta (2023), and her solo piece Caught in Bright Blue Light (2024).
